The problem with the USA PATRIOTS Act is that it gives the Executive branch too much power. It disturbs the system of checks and balances as the other two branches as unable to check on the actions of the Executive branch (FBI).

Doe V. Gonzales

In the case a group of librarians fought against the gag ordered put on by the FBI. They didn't like the invasion of peoples business and then not being able to tell them. They didn't just fight the gag order but also the FBI's ability to demand records without court orders. Soon after the FBI Stood down.
